COPAD (Cooperativefor the Promotionof Sustainable Agriculture) is an agricultural cooperative committed to the sustainable development of rural communities. It supports and mentors groups of women and young people—particularly teenage mothers and vulnerable women—to make agriculture a true driver of economic self-reliance and social reintegration.

By promotingsustainable agriculture and collective work, COPAD strengthens social cohesion, fosters peace, and restores agriculture’s strategic value as a driver of local development.

Our Interest

Our goal is to make agriculture a source of decent income for young people and women, while positioning it as a powerful driver of job creation.

It was with this vision in mind that the Cooperative for the Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture (COPAD) was founded: to build an integrated and inclusive agricultural value chain capable of sustainably guiding young people and women toward financial independence and sustainable development.

To see young people and women who are self-reliant, fulfilled, and resilient, empowered by sustainable agriculture organized into value chains and by the development of income-generating activities, supported by targeted entrepreneurial capacity-building initiatives.

To support young people and women in achieving economic empowerment and job creation by leveraging local resources through the promotion of sustainable agriculture organized into value chains, in order to generate a lasting and positive impact within Burundian communities.

Our Goals

  • Develop and organize a sustainable agricultural value chain.
  • Establish model fields to serve as spaces for learning and agricultural innovation.
  • Support young people and women in the practical application of agricultural techniques within their households.
  • Forge strategic partnerships to facilitate market access and the sale of products.
  • Reduce post-harvest losses through appropriate management systems in order to maximize the income of cooperative members.

Establishment of Producer Groups

The COPAD Cooperative, with support from NIKO SEED, has established groups of women farmers in Kiganda (Muramvya) and Gihanga (Bubanza).

These groups receive support in the production of grains and food crops in order to strengthen food security and generate sustainable income.

Establishment of groups of fruit producers and collectors

With support from NIKO SEED, COPAD has established youth groups in Gitaza (Rumonge), Nyabiraba (Bujumbura Rural), and Mpanda (Bubanza).
These groups receive training and support in fruit production, harvesting, and processing to boost local income and employment.

Link 1 - Sustainable Agricultural Production

In this first phase, COPAD, with support from NIKO SEED, is training women, young people, single mothers, and out-of-school girls in modern agricultural techniques.
The goal is to promote sustainable, productive, and income-generating agriculture in the surrounding communities.
