SOPAD was formed through the joining of forces by three organizations that sought to collaborate in pursuit of common goals and that operate in the same sector, primarily promoting sustainable agriculture by young people and women. To effectively achieve their common goals and establish a value chain, the consortium’s member organizations have established a framework for collaboration and professional guidance.
The consortium's goal is therefore to help its members transition from the informal sector to the formal sector and move from artisanal to industrial production.
The consortium funded the establishment of the COPAD cooperative and the formalization of youth and women’s groups. It organizes capacity-building activities on agricultural techniques and the practical application of these techniques in households. It also funds the creation of demonstration fields and the distribution of seeds.
The consortium funded the purchase of equipment and supplies for the Kiganda “Batwa” community group.
For the SOPATRAM processing facility, the consortium supports the facility and the young people who benefit from it by providing training in food processing techniques and quality control, guiding them in both administrative and financial management procedures as well as hygiene and phytosanitary standards.
As for the TWINAGURE association, the consortium helps organize groups of women entrepreneurs, single mothers, and out-of-school girls to implement training and vocational education programs. It assists in providing startup capital to various groups organized around income-generating activities and includes a program for the social reintegration of girls and women who have been rejected by society.
